Australian Teachers

Australian teachers

At Hourglass, we’re used to dealing with complex visa requirements. As a result of our long connection with international teachers, we’ve lost count of just how many education professionals and schools we’ve helped through this process.

We regularly interview teachers in their home countries and follow up with a tailored support programme to take them through immigration, relocation and beyond. From time to time, we get an unusual one, and that’s when it gets interesting.

One of our consultants picked up a call from an Australian teacher who introduced himself as a “non-qualified teacher with a big education but with less experience than most”. We know that some heads really value teachers with good subject knowledge and in certain circumstances they can be employed as unqualified instructors in English schools. However, this teacher went on to explain that his right to work in the UK was about to expire, which meant that the clock was most definitely ticking!

Recent opportunities

Types of roles we recruit overseas candidates for:

Long-term supply

Long-term supply provides a level of security without the teacher or the school committing indefinitely.

Permanent roles

The majority of the roles we work on are permanent teaching posts in secondary schools in the south east of England.

Leadership roles

Ambition comes in all shapes and sizes. For some teachers, it’s all about the subject, but for others, moving up the career ladder means taking on management responsibilities.

Overseas teachers

Our role is to provide teachers with exactly what they need to relocate and thrive in the most exciting teaching opportunities in the UK.
